Recognizing a serious need for a library support program, a small group of individuals worked hard to re-establish the Friends of the Matteson Public Library in 2006.
A Friends group can be an incredible asset to a public library by providing additional funding for programs, volunteering for a variety of tasks and acting as outspoken advocates for all libraries.
Friends groups in other communities have donated the funds for such items as: prize books for the summer reading program, furnishings and equipment, and program presenters. They have also volunteered their time to run book sales and man booths at exhibits and festivals as they advocated for their local libraries.
The Friends of the Matteson Public Library would like to invite the residents of the Village of Matteson, or lovers of the Matteson Public Library, to meet with them at their monthly meetings which are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the library.
