AccessibilityThe Matteson Public Library makes every reasonable effort to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Handicapped parking spaces for properly identified vehicles are available. A ramp is located near the south end of the parking lot. Automatic doors assist in entering the building where both floors are wheelchair friendly and accessible using the elevator located next to the administrative office. Handicapped restrooms are also available on both floors. The library has a collection of audio books on cassette or compact disc, as well as large print materials. The Talking Book program, a free service offered through the Heart of Illinois Talking Book Center, enables individuals to receive equipment and audio books at home. The Center also maintains a telephone dial-up system that offers daily newspapers read over the phone. If you are a Matteson resident who is homebound, or residing in the Applewood Living Center, you are eligible to receive free library delivery service. Patrons who have a hearing or speech impairment and have access to a TDD can call the library’s TDD machine at 708-748-4431, or if they are in the library and need to call out, just ask staff at the front desk for assistance. Patrons who require special accommodations for a disability are asked to call the library 48 hours in advance of an event at (708) 748-4431 |
