ABE – Lincoln and the Power of Language Perhaps none in the mid-nineteenth century understood the power of the written and spoken word as well as Abraham Lincoln, except for perhaps African American slaves. In this presentation, Janet Cornelius traces Lincoln’s struggle with education and compares that with slave experiences; some of whom risked torture and death in order to learn to read. Slaves also wanted to write because, as Frederick Douglass said, “to sign my name is to confirm my identity” Registration is required for all programs. Tuskegee Architects Although Tuskegee is primarily associated with the famous Airmen, one of the lesser known facets of this institution was its architectural program. This presentation , by Beth Johnson, touches on the development of the Tuskegee campus and early graduates of the architectural program The evolution of industrial/normal education is examined in addition to following the various architectural trails left by Tuskegee educators, entrepreneurs, and developers. This will also be presented by historian and certified genealogist, Eric Smith. U.S.A. A duet from the Homewood/Flossmoor Suzuki Strings will perform Holiday music. The concert is free to the public. Bring your singing voice and be ready to join in on your favorite songs.
Next, listen to the Rich Township Senior Choir perform some “Dreamer’s Holiday” music. This will be a mixture of holiday songs and dreamer’s melodies. Dream and sing along with the Choir during this time to lift your spirits in this exciting program. Lunch will conclude the program. A Senior “Get Together” Join along and listen to the Mo Beat Blues Band showcasing Sammy Lozada, an experienced musician. He will perform lively and entertaining music.
