Organizing Your Home

 Let’s come and get organized together. Learn about having a fresh approach at organizing all aspects of your home. Bring questions so that the great Home Organizer, Kristine Todd, can address each and every one of your questions. There will also be a raffle held at this great program about organizational issues.

Container Gardening

Lift landscape design off the ground and onto decks, patios, terraces, and balconies with these “moveable gardens”. Landscape designer and educator, Kathleen Obirek, will share her expertise in gardening. There is an optional $7 charge for detailed instruction  sheets, booklets, and product samples (cash only please). When you attend this educational lecture, you will have a chance to win a door prize of a bio-stimulant hormone for your plants.

Pruning Trees & Shrubs

 Gardeners—be on the “cutting edge” of practicing prudent pruning. Come ready to learn the techniques and try such tools as an ergonomic bypass hand pruner, the PowerGear pruners, the new telescopic ratchet lappers, and the Zubat hand saw. Handouts will be provided to each registrant free of charge for this program.

Genealogy for Beginners, Part 1

Digital Photography

Are you in the market for a new digital camera? The holidays are just around the corner and so are the new digital cameras. Learn about such aspects as to which features are important and which are not. Learn also about how many mega pixels are really necessary, and finally be educated on printing options, storage solutions, and how to achieve the most out of your digital camera. If you already own a digital camera, please bring it along.

ABE – Lincoln and the Power of Language
Date: Thursday November 6th, 2008  
Time: 7:00 to 8:30

 Perhaps none in the mid-nineteenth century understood the power of the written and spoken word as well as Abraham Lincoln, except for perhaps African American slaves. In this presentation, Janet Cornelius traces Lincoln’s struggle with education and compares that with slave experiences; some of whom risked torture and death in order to learn to read. Slaves also wanted to write because, as Frederick Douglass said, “to sign my name is to confirm my identity”

Tuskegee Architects
Date: Thursday November 13th, 2008

 Although Tuskegee is primarily associated with the famous Airmen, one of the lesser known facets of this institution was its architectural program. This presentation , by Beth Johnson, touches on the development of the Tuskegee campus and early graduates of the architectural program The evolution of industrial/normal education is examined in addition to following the various architectural trails left by Tuskegee educators, entrepreneurs, and developers.

Genealogy Beginner’s Workshop – Part 2

U.S.A. Cooking Camp and Holiday/Winter Cooking Ide
Date: Saturday December 6th, 2008  
Time: 11:00 to 12:30

 Come and learn how to prepare the perfect dish for your holiday feast. You are certain to be the star of the dinner table. Professional chefs from U.S.A. Cooking Camp will demonstrate tasty recipes with samples for participants to enjoy after the class. Registration is required. Please note the limit of 20 registrants will be permitted.

A Holiday Party for Seniors
Date: Thursday December 11th, 2008  
Time: 10:30 to 12:30

 

A duet from the Homewood/Flossmoor Suzuki Strings will perform Holiday music.

The concert is free to the public. Bring your singing voice and be ready to join in on your favorite songs.

 

Next, listen to the Rich Township Senior Choir perform some “Dreamer’s Holiday” music. This will be a mixture of holiday songs and dreamer’s melodies. Dream and sing along with the Choir during this time to lift your spirits in this exciting program. Lunch will conclude the program.

A Senior “Get Together”

 Join along and listen to the Mo Beat Blues Band showcasing Sammy Lozada, an experienced musician. He will perform lively and entertaining music. Come and be ready to sing and dance to some upbeat blues music.
